Jewel of Matlacha
On the northwest edge of Cape Coral is the little village of Matlacha. Matlacha is the small key you cross on your journey from the mainland to Pine Island. It is well worth an afternoon of exploration. From beautiful art galleries, like the Wild Child and Island Visions, to Native American jewelry at Traders Hitching Post to homemade ice cream at Great Licks, there are many things to discover in Matlacha.
Stop and visit Peggy at the Wild Child Gallery. If you have time in the schedule, take in one of their workshops, but whatever you do, keep your eyes up, down and all around as there are beautiful works of local artists from floor to ceiling.
Matlacha is a fisherman's village also and there are many options for fishing charters, eco tours and exploring on your own in a kayak.
If you get hungry, try and grab a table outside on the water at the Island Cafe on the Bay, beautiful scenery and a wonderful menu. Another can't miss spot is the Olde Fish House Marina. Be sure to try the grouper sandwich blackened.
Take Pine Island Road west towards Pine Island and stop when the scenery explodes in color! You will be glad you did.
